Of course Ukrainians have rights. But their government put those rights in jeopardy when they chose to accept a role as NATO’s blunt force instrument aimed at Russia. It’s a dangerous game, and I guess Russia felt itself cornered. Kissinger and others warned all about the powder keg that was about to explode, but the West turned a deaf ear to Russia’s request for security guarantees. I hope the pendulum swings back to calmer days. We live in a cyclical world.

I don’t support. I look at both sides. I’m lucky enough to be in Moscow where I can see all that never gets reported in the West and all that the Western Press misreports. Eight years of Ukrainian bombardment of civilians in Donbass might be another starting point. Or maybe another starting point was the EU and US support of the Maidan massacre. Or does it hark back to NATO’s bombing of Belgrade in the Yugoslav civil war. This is far from a binary event. I wish we could talk rather than sling invective at each other. I still believe in objective journalism and being skeptical of all public sources. Until this year, I have never commented on political affairs and world events. But being caught in the middle of this turmoil has forced me over the edge. As an American I want my government to force negotiations and a cease fire, and I want us to be as supportive of the Palestinians as the Ukrainians.
