A Sunday retrospective on the week past
ALL NOT GOLDEN IN CHINA
Olympic medals are being withheld in the team figure skating event until the drug situation surrounding Russia’s Kamila Valieva is resolved. Kamila is the best figure. skater in a generation according to American commentators Tara Lipinsky and Johnny Weir. Yet they felt she should not have skated in the solo competition with an unexplained positive drug test hanging over her head. With her confidence destroyed by the media vultures, she had a disastrous performance that left her in fourth place. Those who opposed her continuing in Olympic competition ignored the fact that there was a process created after Sochi Olympics to handle the eligibility of accused athletes. Kamila’s case was was handled according to the process and she was okay to skate. However, the strong anti-Russian bias turned the public and the Olympic community against the decision. As feared, the 15-year-old was crushed under the pressure and gave the worst performance of her young career. Luckily she could not see the reaction in the American media in which scurrilous political commentators pre-judged the facts and condemned the Olympic committee. Cooler heads are waiting for all the facts to be gathered in the coming months. Meanwhile Kamila was back on the ice in Moscow practicing as vigorously as ever.
CONTINUING TO PROVOKE RUSSIA OVER UKRAINE
The US and NATO and the EU kept the world on edge all week with daily predictions about Russia invading Ukraine, even releasing maps of possible invasion routes. Meanwhile, the Ukraine army, bloated with American weaponry, bombarded the civilian areas of the break-away Donbas provinces. Authorities there evacuated 700,000 civilians to safety in Russia. Ukrainian confidence was riding high figuring that US warnings about invasion would keep Russia from intervening. Putin in response indicated Russia would not tolerate genocide against Russian ethnics, which the fascist Azov Division of irregulars was threatening all over Ukraine. The US Congress used the unrest to authorize a record $800 billion military budget. Rather than lose the advantage of the heated moment, the US and NATO denied Russia’s announcement that it was withdrawing some troops from the border. The “Art of the Lie” was front and center as the West rebuffed journalists’ request for proof of all the allegations and predictions flying around. Informed Sources and Intelligence Reports needed no verification. Meanwhile, someone was making money off the wildly fluctuating stock markets on both sides.
THE ROAD TO HELL IS PAVED BY MISPLACED PRONOUNS
Thousands of Catholic Baptisms were declared invalid in Arizona because a priest for many years departed from the approved script for performing the sacrament. The first words are supposed to be “I baptize thee…”, but he replaced the “I” with a “We.” The ritual is meant for newborns and converts to establish their church membership and to forgive the “original sin” of all bequeathed by Eve’s eating the forbidden apple from the Tree of Knowledge. Without baptism one cannot enter heaven, which creates an issue for the families of all those who have since died - being debaptized. There are other sacraments and rituals that may be affected, such as marriage, and the children of any “illegal marriages.” The pandemic calls into question the validity of “Last Rites.” Right now there is a mess in heaven and on earth as lost souls jockey on the road to salvation. Even God must wait for the Pope to intervene.
DONALD TRUMP’S LAST GASP
Donald Trump is on the edge of extinction. Republicans are starting to realize that they can retake both houses of Congress in 2022 and the presidency in 2024 without Trump on the ticket…nor with his support. Biden and the Democrats have faltered badly. It’s not so much that Biden could not muster enough support to get his key legislation passed, but rather the tarnishing effect of “woke-ism” on the image of the Democratic Party. The voting women in the suburbs are abandoning the Dems to register as Republicans, having been seduced by phony cultural issues involving educational policies and white supremacy. Trump is about to be submerged in a tsunami of depositions, civil suits, and criminal investigations that will keep him occupied trying to preserve his “winner” reputation, keeping what’s left of his overestimated fortune intact, and keeping his dream of grabbing power alive. The best jocular suggestion to emerge was for a coalition of political leaders to build a replica of the Oval Office in Washington, installing Trump therein, and telling him he is president. For Trump, appearance is everything.
